A labourer who was jailed for breaking into a crime-ravaged beauty salon has failed in his bid to win an early release from prison.

Dean Anthony Gibson, also known as Dean Goss, was handed a nine-month sentence at Lincoln Crown Court in May after he admitted burglary.

Two senior judges reviewing his case at London's Court of Appeal ruled that 30-year-old Gibson deserved every day of that term.

Mr Justice Owen, sitting with Mr Justice Griffith Williams, told the court Gibson and another man broke into a hairdresser's in Lincoln in January last year.

Gibson, of no fixed abode, was caught by police with £10 in cash and hair-cutting equipment and said he had been drinking before the incident, the judge said.

The court heard the burglary was the fifth time the salon had been broken into that year, and the owner had to pay around £400 towards a new front window every time.

Lawyers for Gibson, who has learning difficulties and was homeless, claimed his sentence was too long considering the low value of the goods stolen.

But Mr Justice Owen rejected the appeal, ruling: "The question for us is whether the sentence imposed on the appellant is manifestly excessive. In our view it is not."

“Should have had another year added on for having the temerity to appeal. Small businesses have enough problems without this idiot!”
