Sir Brian Souter, Stagecoach Group chief executive, said: "Youth unemployment is one of the biggest issues facing our country and we know the bus is Britain's most important mode of public transport.
"Stagecoach already offers the lowest bus fares of any major operator in the country, making public transport affordable for those on low incomes. We hope this initiative can help kick-start the careers for those who are struggling to get that first job or training place."
Bus travel is the most popular mode of transport used by commuters, with 5.2 billion journeys in the UK each year.
More than 800,000 people who are out of work and claiming benefits qualify for a Jobcentreplus Travel Discount Card. The cards are available through JobCentre Plus.
People claiming Jobseekers' Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support or working with a Jobcentre Plus adviser to find a job are eligible. For information go to www.stagecoachbus.com/bkonboard.aspx .

“Will this compensate the applicant for arriving late for interview due to buses running late due to saturation of the market and buses catching up with the bus in front running late . The best thing for Lincoln's public transport would be for the monopoly's commission or the traffic commissioners to look into the how other local bus companies are being starved of revenue due to over saturation of the market by one company to stop others from competing for trade. Lincoln needs competition from other operators to bring bus fares down . The plans for the future transport hub is very short sighted due to only being thirteen departure bays which does not take into account the smaller operators wanting to use the hub for their services too,or better still another company choosing to start operating services in Lincoln in competition .”
