Javelin thrower Joe Dunderdale breaks long-standing club record

JAVELIN thrower Joe Dunderdale shattered a long-standing Lincoln Wellington AC record at the recent Cleethorpes Open.

Dunderdale launched a winning throw of 62.06m in the under-20 men's event at King George V Stadium Grimsby.

The distance eclipsed the previous record which had stood for over 20 years.

Dunderdale completed a good day by taking second place in the discus with 35.90m.

A fine family double was completed when Hannah Dunderdale won the under-17 women's javelin with 33.67m before sealing the 300m in 43.4 and taking second place in the shot with 9.59m.

Sam Atkin moved down in distance to take an impressive win in the junior, senior and veteran men's 800m with a personal best of 2:00.3.

Les Ball was happy with fifth place in 2:11.5 on his return to the track after a lay-off and Jon Hughes squeezed out a personal best with 2:21.7 for sixth position.

George Shuttleworth was a little further back in eighth spot with 2:51.4.

Sydney Cherrie picked up a good win in the under-15 girl's long jump with a leap of 4.22m and was also joint second in the high jump with 1.30m.

Sam Shuttleworth finished runner-up in the under-17 men's 400m in 56.1 and later took the same position in the 800m in 2:10.4.

Megan Ball was also runner-up in the under-17 women's 800m in 2:26.2 as was Susie Ardron in the junior/senior women's 800m with 2:42.0. Shireen Timmis was third in the junior/senior 100m in 13.5 and Ellie Clarke took third spot in the 400m in 67.7.

In the 3000m, Ryan Stevenson recorded 10.14.4 for seventh place and in the under-13 boys', 800m Joe Shuttleworth was fifth in 2:37.9 before going onto take third in the shot with 6.01m.

A good leap of 4.40m gave veteran Denise Timmis fifth place in the long jump, while Luke Cherrie was also fifth in the under-11 boys' long jump with 3.12m
