John Small takes win in the latest Whisby Angling Supplies Trent Series match

WHISBY ANGLING SUPPLIES TRENT SERIES

THE sixth match of this 10-match series was held on Saturday and the venue was Dunham Bridge.

Coming into this match Dean Smith (SPRO Lincoln Whisby) was leading this event by one point from team-mate John Small.

But for the first time this series John edged himself in front with a win.

With the assistance of an end peg draw John fished the groundbait feeder at peg one where he caught a mixed bag of fish.

In his catch John had a barbel, a decent chub, a couple of bream and roach, and perch to weigh 21lb 15oz.

John Hackney was the runner-up.

He drew peg nine and opted to fish the stick float where he had a steady day's fishing and finished the day with 15lb 10oz.

Ryan Neal took third place.

Ryan fished groundbait feeder and worm on the hook to take a couple of perch at around the 2lb mark, a couple of skimmers and some smaller bits to finish the day with 11lb 9oz.

John Small now leads this event with 39 points from Dean Smith who is on 37.

PAUL AND JIM ANDREWS MEMORIAL MATCH

The second Paul and Jim Andrews Memorial Match was held on Sunday on the River Trent at Laughterton and North Clifton and 30 anglers turned out to compete in the event.

It was Dean Smith (SPRO Lincoln Whisby) who took the honours.

Dean drew the noted peg 32 at Laughterton where he fished triple caster to take three barbel and some bits to finish the day with 35lb 13oz.

Dean's biggest barbel weighed in at an impressive 13lb 13oz.

John Blades (Lincoln) was the runner-up.

John drew peg 34 at Laughterton where he too found a couple of barbel and two skimmers and some bits for a weight of 16lb 13oz.

Malc Firmstone (Garbolino/Harrisons Lincs County) finished in third place.

Malc had a barbel, a skimmer and some bits at peg 24 at North Clifton for a final weight of 11lb 10oz.

Fourth, from peg 39 at Laughterton, was Malc Topliss with 8lb 13oz which consisted of four skimmers and some bits.

A total of £267 was raised in the raffle after the match and this is to be donated to the British Heart Foundation.

CHARITY MATCH

A charity match in aid of the Air Ambulance was held last Thursday on the Collingham Millennium Complex and 54 anglers competed.

John Stone (Barnstone) was the winner.

John fished pellet on the pole for a weight of 46lb 7oz.

In second place was Jason Teal (Lincoln) who fished the method feeder with hair-rigged pellet to take 42lb 12oz.

Third place went to Paul Cowling (Collingham) with 42lb 6oz also caught on the feeder.

A total of £360 was raised.

RUSKINGTON CLUB MATCH

Only nine anglers turned out on Sunday for the Ruskington Club match on Manor Lake, but at the end of the day there were four anglers who broke the 100lb barrier.

The best weight on the day went to Pete Andrews (Ruskington) from peg 18 where he fished the method feeder with pellet to weigh 128lb 4oz.

Peg 22 saw Dave Daniels (Ruskington) take the runner-up position.

Dave fished meat in the margins for a weight of 119lb 4oz.

Third, from peg eight, was Shane Willcox.

Shane fished the method feeder with pellet to take 114lb 11oz.

RUSKINGTON OPEN

Fourteen anglers visited Moat Lake on the Bank Holiday Monday to fish an afternoon match between 2pm and 7pm.

Dave Daniels (Ruskington) won this match from peg 19.

Dave fished meat in the margins to take a catch of 117lb.

Shaun Coaten (Spalding) was the runner-up.

He fished corn on the long pole to finish with 110lb 4oz from peg 28.

Paul Mosley (Windmill Tackle) was third on the day.

Paul fished paste on the long pole at peg 12 to finish the session with 104lb and Paul Harsley (Dave's Peg) was fourth with 108lb 4oz caught on pellet from peg three.

HOSPITAL AC

Twenty-four members of the Hospital AC visited Kingfisher Lake at Westwood Lakes on Sunday.

Ian Thomas was the victor.

Ian fished corn on the pole to take 38lb 9oz and a comfortable victory.

In second place was Steve Watson who fished red maggot on the pole to end the day with 22lb 3oz.

This was just enough to beat Roy Bentley who used similar tactics to finish just half an ounce behind.

Stan Spurr was fourth with 7lb 9oz.

CASTAWAY BANK HOLIDAY OPEN

Twenty anglers attended this match at Fen Lake in Metheringham and on the day most of the anglers had an excellent day's sport.

Best of all was Shaun Moss.

Shaun fished the short pole with paste at peg four before switching to fishing up in the water with pellet to record a weight of 155lb 6oz.

A few ounces behind from the next peg five was Terry Holt.

Terry fished the pole at four metres with meat to take 154lb 11oz.

Third place went to Dave Robinson from peg 12.

Dave fished the short pole with pellet for 135lb 10oz.

Fourth was Paul Quinton at peg seven with 134lb 3oz.
