Chris Sutton keen on bringing back Matt Saunders, Nathan Baker and Chris Herd
CHRIS SUTTON admits he would be "stupid" to overlook re-signing last season's loan rangers as he steps up his Lincoln City recruitment drive.
Having made eight signings so far this summer, the Imps boss is still keen to supplement his squad with the League Two opener at Rotherham just a fortnight away.

Chris Herd.
Sutton confessed that his next signings are likely to come from the loan market and the City chief has already started to explore the Premier League's treasure trove of talent.
But he has not ruled out a return for the likes of Aston Villa duo Chris Herd and Nathan Baker and Fulham's Matthew Saunders after their success last season.
"We still have the option of venturing into the loan market and we would be stupid to overlook those who did so well for us last season," he said.
"We need to improve the side and if we can get people in of the right quality, then we will.
"But it's not as easy as people imagine. I understand where the fans are coming from with regards to signings, but we have to be realistic.
"Overall I'm pleased with the signings we have made. I won't shout from the rooftops, but we've addressed areas that were a problem.
"And if we can sign some of the loan players who did so well for us last season, then that would be great."

“Well on my opinion we should definately sign a good goal scoring attacker with 20+ goals this will be hard for us imps to get someone who is that good to come to a league 2 side and yes delroy is looking a bit unfit!”

“I agree with Kevin. I thought Keltie was excellent today. In fact I was impressed with the performance. They seemed comfortable on the ball and not short of ideas.”

“Keltie ran the show today- always involved, always wanting the ball. Played simple short balls and accurate with long balls when he saw te opening. Very impressed and a huge improvement on last season. Should be captain.”

“Ged - Akinfenwa is a great great player, who should be League One or Championship. However, if he plays more than half the season for you your doing well - he is always injured.
So for that reason, Im out.
As for those 3, if we can get then of course we should. So what if it means Keltie and others have to sit on the bench.”

“A top striker must be a top priority but I would welcome all three back at the bank especially Baker. I dont see loads of options at centre back especially with Watts still recovering. I just hope if we did get all three they will play in their natural positions, Saunders was a class player at centre midfield but lost something when out on the left. Even though he did score from there including a stunner against Hereford.
Just hope there is wages available to bring in a quality forward and these three.
I'm sure CS has other strikers in his thoughts and hopefully is actively trying to get them in before the Rotherham game. Might have his eye on a Celtic player for I know, I dont have any reliable sources though :-P Hope is a decent crowd today even with the price being £15 that will help to fund the new striker we are craving for.”

“I¿d welcome them all back with welcome arms, especially Herd. Yes, he is a walking yellow card but if anyone can instil discipline into his play, then arguably Sutton is your man. As far as cover for Watts is concerned, would we perhaps be able to recall Danny Hone from loan if an injury crisis raises its head in the next six months? I hope so, but don¿t know.
As for strikers, there is not a lot out there available at the moment but I see Akinfenwa is available on a free. Yes, I know we all laughed at him last season because of his bulk, but he obviously knows where the goal is, which is a big plus in a striker, and I for one don¿t care what he looks like if he can put the ball in the net. Just a thought, and I¿m sure those of you more in the know can tell me if I¿m talking tosh, delusional or just plain stupid.”

“Although Saunders and Herd would be great signings, where would they fit in the team? Sutton would have to drop Keltie who, I've heard, have had very good pre seasons so far.”
