SPRO SATURDAY LEAGUE
The recent recorded match weights on this venue again drew anglers from across the country with 42 paying their money to compete in this weekend's competition.
On this occasion, anglers were met with a mucky-coloured Fossdyke canal, light rain and a cool breeze.
Overall, the canal did not fish as well as in recent weeks, although the top weights were still respectable for this time of the year.
For the second time in four matches peg 83 produced the individual winner, with Pete Scott (Fox Match Trentmen) making full use of the draw by putting 11lb 5oz on the scales at the end of the match.
Pete caught on bloodworm over joker and had skimmers, perch and roach for his weight.
The next three weights were all very close indeed. Consistent Wayne Swinscoe (Van Den Eynde) was runner-up, drawing peg 73 and also catching on bloodworm over joker. He also managed to catch a few perch on lobworm to finish the day with a weight of 7lb 2oz.
Matt Hall (Sensas/Matchbox) finished third, catching eels and perch on lobworm at peg 18 and finishing the day with a weight of 7lb 1oz.
Dean Guess (Fox Match Trentmen) took 6lb 14oz of fish to the scales from peg 8 to finish fourth and Barry Wiggington (Nottingham) was fifth with 5lb 15oz.
After the fourth round, Alan Houlton (Garbolino/Harrisons Lincs County) is leading the event.
Chris Jenkinson (Van Den Eynde) and Alan Henry (SPRO Lincoln Whisby), with 19 points, have taken over the lead in the pairs competition.
LINCOLN JUNIOR SECTION
The Lincoln Juniors held a club match on Moon Lake at Tattershall and 12 anglers competed in the competition. For most of the match the anglers on peg 12 and peg 13 battled it out fish for fish and it was Danny Martin on peg 13 who edged the competition.
Danny fished maggot over ground bait on the pole and had a bonus perch of over 2lb in his winning weight of 17lb 8oz.
Second place went to Josh Read (Whisby Angling Supplies) with 14lb 4oz. Josh started on the ground bait feeder before switching to the pole on peg 12. Third was Luke Thompson, who had four carp on the maggot feeder for a final weight of 12lb 6oz from peg 2.
JK MIDWEEK SERIES
The latest round of this series was held at Thimbleby Lake 2 and the 13 anglers who competed found the venue very hard and catches were dramatically down on recent weeks.
Pete Allen (Ruskington) was the winner on the day with a modest 13lb. He had five carp and some silver fish for his weight from peg 5 on the 4mm pellet. Next door, peg 6, saw Rick Wild secure second place, with three carp and some bits for a final weight of 9lb 8oz.
Third was John King with an all-silver fish catch of 7lb 8oz from peg 10.
HAVERHOLME PARK WINTER LEAGUE
Only nine anglers decided to face the elements at Haverholme Lake last week to fish the second round of the Winter League.
This league is a bit different from most and is being tried for the first time this year.
I understand it is based on Belgium match rules. Anglers draw their pegs as normal but have two nets, one for silver fish and one for carp.
At the final whistle both nets are weighed separately. There is a winner for whoever has the best silver fish weight and a winner for the best carp weight, so in essence there are two matches in one.
The individual league scores are based on points for who has the best silver fish weight and the best carp weight.
For example, the best silver fish weight will get one point, the second two points, etc, and the same for the carp weights.
Last week's silver fish winner from peg 6 was Paul Mosley (Windmill Tackle) with 5lb 4oz and second was A. Freeman with 3lb 14oz from peg 7.
Third was Edgar Purnell (Ruskington) at peg 12 with 3lb 12oz.
The carp winner was Dave Daniels at peg 3 with 25lb 6oz, second place went to Phil Clark (Ruskington) with 21lb and third was Paul Mosley (Windmill Tackle) with 18lb 8oz.
League points on the day were accrued by Paul Mosley, four points, Phil Clark and A. Freeman, both with six points and Dave Daniels with eight points.
RUSKINGTON WINTER SERIES
It was consistent peg 29, on the lawn, where the fish seemed to be and where most anglers wanted to draw.
Paul Mosley (Windmill Tackle) drew the peg and won the match with a respectable 69lb 8oz, catching carp and skimmers on the pole on pellet.
Second place went to Pete McGraw (Sleaford) at peg 27. He fished a maggot feeder and had a few carp and some skimmers for his final weight of 29lb 8oz.
After these two weights the rest plummeted, and only 5lb 15oz was needed for Richard Bond to finish third. He caught skimmers on maggot for his weight at peg 21. Fourth at peg 23 was Dave Daniels with just 4lb 15oz.
