A PRIMARY school that gives an important voice to students has been ranked outstanding by inspectors.

Leaders at Fosseway School in North Hykeham were described as "exemplars" in a report by Ofsted.

This follows the last report in 2007, which said the school was good, with outstanding features.

Headteacher Nora Walkley said: "We have moved on considerably and I put it down to the superb teachers and support staff who work with brilliant children.

"This year particularly, we have worked very hard to develop creativity in giving the children choices and listening to what they say ."

"I have been here 13 years. It's such a special school, it's amazing and always changing."

The report says it is thanks to the headteacher and deputy who have embedded ambition and driven improvement.

A key feature of the school is the strong voice the pupils have in decisions made about school life and the report highlights this.

Kian Smith, 10, said: "I am very proud indeed of the school. I think I have got a lot of confidence from the teachers and all the teachers have got a lot of confidence in the pupils.

"My favourite part of the school is the lessons because I can learn a lot and when I grow up I can hopefully become an MP for Lincoln."

The report says the children have a degree of social maturity that makes them a "pleasure to teach".

They are particularly literate in maths and with computers.

As part of the report, parents were asked for their views – which were overwhelmingly positive.

Karen Jefferson, 33, sends her son Samuel, four, to the school.

She said: "My husband is in the Navy and before we were posted here, I did a lot of research and I just wanted him to go to Fosseway.

"It's a great school. The teachers and pupils are brilliant.

"It's not a surprise the school has got the top grade, but it's lovely that it has been recognised."

Adam Winfield, 40, of Hykeham Road in Lincoln, said: "One of my boys went all the way through Fosseway and has now gone on to secondary school, so seeing his development and his ability and preparedness to go forward has been superb.

"My other son is just finishing and they have both done really well and have always really enjoyed school.

"One of the things they have taken from Fosseway is the ability to self-learn. When he comes home with projects, he always wants to find out more."

“Mushroom, grow up. Who do you think the Echo is going to speak to for a quote? And the Head made sure she didn't take the credit - it was the Ofsted report that praised the management team.
Actually if a school is failing it is the Headteacher that takes the blame and tend to lose their jobs.”

“My 6 year old child has been with Fosseway since 2006. After re-location from another school I can honestly say hand on heart it is exceptional in everyway. The staff at all levels & teachers are what makes this school OUTSTANDING. My child's report yestersday shows he is excelling over & above his level of education. He loves school, he is cared for 110% & all that is left to say is a massive well done to Nora Walkley the Head Mistress, her deputy & all the teachers, children and Fossway school staff. Proud of you all. Fantastic well done :-)”

“I had to post a reply to the above comment. My child goes to Fosseway and the head and deputy head deserve the credit for this report. They do a fantastic job, as do the whole teaching staff. They do far more for the school than is required of them. I've known that it is an outstanding school long before the report! Well done!”

“Come on Mushroom - have you read the article? Headteacher Nora Walkley said: "We have moved on considerably and I put it down to the superb teachers and support staff who work with brilliant children."
The Ofsted report, written by the inspectors states: "it is thanks to the headteacher and deputy who have embedded ambition and driven improvement."
Many people work very hard for our children and often don't get the recognition they deserve. Well done all at Fosseway.”

“It always strikes me as being paradoxical that when schhols get good Ofsted reports or a good position iin the league tables, the school leadership is quick to accept the credit.

Yet when they get poor results they blame everything but themselves”
