Gainsborough Trinity boss Brian Little praised match winner Lewis McMahon after the midfielder struck the crucial goal in the 2-1 home win against Hyde United last night.

Trinity looked like they were heading for a draw after the visitors had levelled Luke Beckett's 16th opener for Trinity.

But former Sheffield Wednesday man McMahon pounced on a loose ball from a throw-in to take his team, who are still in the drop-zone, level on points with Gloucester City, in Blue Square North.

"Lewis has not looked like scoring in the last two or three games and I have substituted him," said the former Aston Villa boss.

"That would have been the easy option for me to take last night but I gambled and I am pleased for Lewis, and myself, that it paid off.

"I could have taken Lewis off and stayed solid, but I went to a 4-3-3 formation with Lewis playing just behind the two front men."

Trinity entertain third-top Alfreton on Saturday and while Little will be looking for a better performance than his side put out last night, he is aware that results are all that matter at this stage of the season.

"That was a massive three points for us against Hyde," he said.

"We did not play very well but we won the game.

"Hyde probably deserved a draw though."
