Lincoln’s Christmas Market is now officially open, with its first visitors sampling its range of attractions.

With over 250 stalls, theatrical performances and fun fair attractions, visitors can easily miss some of the market’s most unique, interesting aspects.

Here are ten stalls which are not to be missed when looking for unique gifts, local produce and festive treats.

Visitors joining the market from Steep Hill will be met by the ‘Great Lorenzo’s’ mulled wine stall in Castle Square. Red and White mulled wine are on offer to guests looking for festive warmth in the cold December weather.

SUSAN’S FARMHOUSE FUDGE

Susan’s Farmhouse Fudge has been in business for almost 30 years, and are offering homemade vanilla, chocolate, coffee and rum-flavoured fudge products at their stall in Castle Square. The family business from Preston, Lancashire has attended Lincoln’s Christmas Market for the past 15 years.

“We keep coming back because it’s great to see locally-sourced products from all over the country in the same place,” said Chris O’Brian, the stalls proprietor.

WINDBRIDGE CRAFT

This Castle Square-based crafts stall features wooden bread boards which can instantly fold into handy bread baskets, and more innovative kitchen utensils.

All products at Winbridge Crafts, making their third appearance in Lincoln’s Christmas Market, are made from a single piece of natural wood.

RED BARON BRATWURST STALL

Red Baron’s Bratwurst are serving authentic German sausages inside the Castle Square Food Court. The Grantham-based business make their 30th appearance at Lincoln Christmas Market this year.

The stall is traditionally one of the first stops in Castle Square but is now in the food court.

FEUCHT-FROHLICHE-NERSTADTER FINE WINE STALL

A wide range of German fine wines will meet visitors entering the Castle Grounds. The Feucht-Fröhliche-Neustadter stall, run by 25 visiting Germans, is raising money for charities such as the Lincoln County Hospital and St. Barnabas Hospice. The wine society has attended Lincoln Christmas Market since it began.

Feucht-Fröhliche-Neustadter’s President Werner Mass, 58, said; “We’ve loved the Christmas market every year, especially when darkness falls over the castle grounds- it’s brilliant every time. When we go to German markets we always try and take back something from Lincoln to sell.”

NEAL’S YARD CHEESE STALL

Further into the Castle Grounds is a selection of British farm cheeses. Neal’s Yard Cheese stall features Lincolnshire Poacher, cheddar and stilton cheese barrels. Full cheese barrels cost £120.

HANDMADE PAPER STARS

The sky lights up outside Lincoln Castle with a unique range of handmade Christmas decorations. Arts and crafts stall Handmade Paper Stars features three-dimensional festive designs which glow in the night sky.

GEORGIE PORGIES PUDDINGS

A unique take on the traditional Christmas pudding awaits visitors in the Christmas Bazaar tent in The Lawn. Georgie Porgies Puddings, in their fifth year at the market, offers flavours including cider, and apple, lemon and orange.

Also featured this year is the ‘Monster Pudding,’ which can feed 15 to 18 people and weighs over 2 kg.

FIRE FOODS

Fire Foods stall are offering their Guinness World Record-breaking ‘Infinity Chilli’ outside Christmas Bazaar. Their chilli was officially declared the world’s hottest in 2010.

The Grantham-based business attending it’s fourth Lincoln Christmas Market, are also offering jars of ‘the world’s hottest curry,’ their peanut butter chilli, and hot chilli pork scratchings.

OSLINC-HOME OF THE LINCOLNSHIRE OSTRICH

Oslinc, just outside Christmas Bazaar, are offering Ostrich, Kangaroo and Wild Boar burgers. They are also offering Ostrich eggs, which have the contents of normal eggs and take an hour to soft boil, and Ostrich feather dusters.

The stall, in their tenth year at Lincoln’s Christmas Market, have an Ostrich farm in Horncastle, and have been running since 1994.
