Organisers of Lincoln Christmas Market say they will listen to traders' views when planning this year's event – but have not yet ruled out a return of the criticised one-way system.

Businesses complained that the one-way pedestrian route up Steep Hill and downhill via Drury Lane, which was introduced at the 2012 market, was bad for trade.

John Latham, director of development at the City of Lincoln Council, attended a Bailgate Guild meeting as part of a review of last year's event and also to listen to traders' views.

"It was clear that traders are passionate about the market and its importance to the local economy," he said.

Guild chairman Mark Hollingworth acknowledged that the council had to address the overcrowding at the market in 2011.

"But I think in 2013 we need to strike the middle ground in that the look and feel of the market is more pleasant," he said.

“Great,Christmas Market news is back.I was getting worried as to where it had gone.
Please make sure we have our weekly dose of the stresses and strains that goes into this
epic event.Looking forward to some painful but sensible decisions this year by the council.
Do you think we could vote off a stupid idea each week in the lead up to the market?
There are over 40 weeks to go,so plenty of weeks for new and improved ideas.”
