Lincoln City assistant Ian Pearce says the Imps are ready to scour the loan market
LINCOLN CITY will have Premier League managers' numbers on speed-dial this Wednesday when the loan window re-opens.
Top-flight teams named their 25-man squads on Tuesday, which means a number of players will be left out in the cold until the next transfer window opens in January, when bosses can modify their line-ups.

Fulham midfielder Matt Saunders, who was on loan at Lincoln City last season, could be on the Imps' radar again.
That has put the Imps on red-alert and they look set to scour the top divisions for talent as unwanted players filter down the leagues
City's assistant manager Ian Pearce confessed the club had targets and manager Chris Sutton has recently expressed a desire to bring back Fulham's Matt Saunders and Aston Villa duo Chris Herd and Nathan Baker to Sincil Bank.
That trio did not need to be named in their respective clubs' final squads as they are 21 or under, but none of them seem likely to be make the breakthrough to the Fulham or Villa first teams in the immediate future. In Herd's case, he will be out with injury for the next two months.
"We are fully aware of the players that have not been named in their clubs' squads," said Pearce.
"The 25-man rule makes it slightly easier for us as I know for a fact that the players left out are not going to be happy playing reserve team football.
"We have targets but it's all a matter of whether or not the player wants to come or their manager will agree to let them leave at that particular moment.
"The manager is in constant contact with the chairman Bob Dorrian and the board.
"We have got good contacts and we will be looking for people to help us out."
Pearce played in the Premier League himself and leapt to the defence of players who look set for a spell on the sidelines, having not been picked.
Certain players are content to sit on their lucrative contracts, but the former Blackburn defender believes the lure of first-team football will tempt the majority to make the move to the lower leagues.

“Stephen
Do like most of us and ignore the 'optimistic' comments. They are only made to annoy people. When you think about it what you said is so patently obvious no one could be so dim as not to realize this, therefore they are deliberately being provocativ.”

“'Optimistic' comments such as from Simon of Metheringham really annoy me. Most teams in League Two are doing exactly the same as us but you're not having a go at them are you? We had some reasonable players on loan last season and I can't see this season being any different. It's going to be slow progress but we're getting there.
One more thing...promotion and relegation are usually decided in April and May so please no such talk about that until then please??”

“I can't wait to see who we end up with. Roy at Liverpool has freed up over 50 players surplus to his 25 man squad - so you never know!”

“I am at a bit of a loss why people are bashing LCFC and Sutton when its still so early days?
Who is it that keeps saying "Bottom by Xmas!"...... we are 2 points away from bottom, but also 2 points away from the playoffs!
I bet the same person would soon jump on me for saying that saying "Playoffs? We got all season to miss out on them," but by the same token we got all season to move away from the relegation zone too and Sutton is clearly trying to make that happen by pouncing on some quality players in positions that will need strengthening.
Cut the guy some slack when we are just 2 points away from the playoffs yeah...... start whinging when we are in the bottom 4 and looking like we have Everest to climb and Sutton is climbing it in bermuda shorts and jesus sandals! Thats when we know we are doomed!”

“For crying out loud, when will people stop! Simon, what on earth is desparate about trying to improve your squad at any time, whether it be permanent or loan signings!
Does anyone seriously think we have a chance of signing quality players like Somma and Matt Saunders on 3 or 4 year permenant deals? And do the same people think Lincoln have a bottomless pit of money that will allow the manager to sign about a dozen players each and every summer?
Jesus, it beggars belief at times!”

“I wish all the negativity aimed at the current management would stop. It is about time some of the so called supporters got into the real world.
The only way small clubs like ours can manage, particularly on gates of around 3,000 per match (almost as many in a season as Man U get each game) is to top up the squad with loan players. Good luck to CS in attracting the right players.
Let's remember it does take time to build a good team.”

“Exactly Jaguar and to add to your point, people may think that loan players seeking first team football who will not want to return to sincil bank after the loan spell are not what we need but lets face it without sommas goals last season we could be in grimsbys position and thats not to mention players like Herd and Saunders who also made a massive difference in midfield. That proved that loan signings are worth it they get something and we most definitly get something!”

“Bigger impact will be the filter through effect. Most of those players out of the 25 will be seeking football elsewhere during the loan period. This will see players from Championship squads driven out until it gets down to us. There are going to be a lot of good players out there we can pick up.”
