Chris Sutton delivered a stern warning to his Lincoln City side today by insisting there was no place to hide following their start to the season.

Ahead of tomorrow's game against Barnet, the Lincoln manager urged his players to prove their character with a win against the Bees.

Having admitted he is growing tired of the "sob stories" that have dominated the season so far, Sutton believes the next 10 games could define their season.

They are all against League Two's unfancied teams and the former Premier League title winner intensified the pressure by admitting he "expected a good few points".

"There is no point in hiding and people have to come to the fore," said the Imps boss, whose team sit in the lower half of the League Two table.

"In these next 10 games, I am expecting a good few points. That's pressure, but that's the way it is.

"We do have players who can win games and I can sit here saying we are going to do this and do that. But in the end you have to go out and prove it.

"Ultimately, when they cross that white line they have to go and perform, it's as simple as that.

"I'd like to think the players are hurting from last week and go out and deliver a performance tomorrow."

“Heres where I am - I am going to the match tomorrow and I am looking forward to it. I am hoping that Sutton's rallying cry will lift the players and encourage them to play well - otherwise they can expect to lose their places to loan players very soon. I agree we seem more likely to score and not as likely to lose at the moment but having played some tough opponents we must hope they beat teams like Barnet and go on a run of wins to promote the crowds and excite us all!”

“Vulcan Imp, don't totally agree with your conclusions, but a reasonable post.
The only part I would argue with is comparing us to where we were under Jackson. This time last year you couldn't see where the next goal was going to come from, let alone the next point. The squad was as poor as I can remember at Sincil Bank with so many areas that needed addressing.
We do still need strengthening, but the squad is better than last year and results are not beyond us. The biggest factor we're lacking is probably confidence - a good result will do wonders for that.”

“I was surprised when CS was appointed as City's manager and the Board stated that "they had taken a gamble" now nearly a year on and with players that have been choosen by him to play the system he wants we find ourselves in a similar situation to the one when Peter Jackson was sacked.
I thought the last home game against Crewe was a good advert for this league but we appeared to want to make are build up play to pretty and by the time we were in their half they had men over in defence, I would have thought that having brought in players that can hurt teams with there speed we should be using those qualities as the basis to our play and hitting teams quickly on the break rather than the slow approach seen against Crewe.
It is true that if we cannot defend set pieces we will lose more than we win but we must play to our strengths and keep our play simple but effective.
I don't want to see another Manager shown the door by the Board but I fear that unless results improve over the next 10 games the pressure will be increased by the fans for a change.
Lets start on Saturday by geeting behind the team and hope that Barnet have another bad day at the office as they did against Crewe the other week.”

“Chris Suttons performance at last nights fans forum did little favour to either himself or the club.
He looked uncomforable, bored and disinterested and his continual jibes towards the club and its supporters won him few friends.
I left feeling downbeat and wondering how much longer he will stay. I guess the next 10 games or so will give us the answer.”

“It's alright Chris Sutton calling on his players to prove their worth equaly it's time he proved his worth by playing a system his players feel comfortable with and not play players out of their best position.
Bringing back Baker on loan would be a mistake as the defense needs an experienced centre back to replace Pearce.”

“There is no doubt at all that success on the pitch brings more fans to future games. It's hardly surprising that attendances have plummeted yet again, given our now usual poor start. I do think our general standard of players is better than last season. But we still haven't properly addressed the fact that Stevens and Somma decided not to come to City. We desperately need a quality centre half as Ian Pearce won't last many more games. If we get someone like Nathan Baker on loan again maybe we can stop the tendancy to concede easy-to-defend goals by switching off at the wrong moment. Matt Saunders would be another great loan as he has the quality to play the holding role. Fingers crossed for a good result on Saturday and news of some loanees next week.”

“"the likelihood of a sub-3000 crowd is starting to tell it's own story " yeah, fickle fans.
That aside, the next ten games do decide where we will be and we can judge Sutton. We have played some good teams and not been routed yet. Look at how we got on against a Crewe side who scored 7 against someone, oh by coincidence our next opponents. To draw a parallel to Leigh C's point about judging a film from the opening credits, we are now in the first ten minutes of scene setting and tomorrows match is the first key bit of dialogue, it's crucial to get it right.”

“We played badly at Chesterfield and at home to Torquay, but turned in good performances against Crewe and against Gillingham. I thought we played well at DVS against Rotherham as well. Things are coming together, but we do need to kick on now. I think a sub 3000 crowd is as much to do with the financial situation we find ourselves in as individuals as much as CS tactics and gameplay. The last game at Sincil Bank may have been 1-1 but it was an even, end to end cracker and anyone at the Bank that day will happily put their hand in their pocket for more of the same.”
