Lincoln City boss David Holdsworth has appealed for common sense to prevail ahead of the Imps’ trip to Luton Town tomorrow.

Holdsworth is concerned for the safety of Lincoln City supporters and players undertaking the 230-mile round trip to Bedfordshire during the current wintry conditions.

Snow has hit the country and while the Hatters have been clearing the pitch at Kenilworth Road, Holdsworth is not convinced that those involved at Lincoln should be put at risk.

“It is not a case of just stepping out the door and being in Luton,” said Holdsworth.

“Supporters and players who go down there would have to travel a long way in difficult conditions.

“And it is not just about getting there. It is about getting back as well, when temperatures will be lower and the roads even more dangerous.

“We should not be asking people to do that and I hope some common sense will see them make an early decision on the match.

“Last weekend we did right by Wrexham by having an early pitch inspection. There was no way we could expect people to try and get over to Lincoln from Wales in these conditions.”

Luton are due to have a pitch and health and safety inspection ahead of tomorrow’s match, but the snow has meant Lincoln have not been able to prepare properly.

The team have not fully trained for a week as the snow gripped the county.

“I had nine players who could not make it into training today because of the weather,” said Holdsworth.

“They are honest lads. I told them I did not want them to put themselves at any unnecessary risks coming to the club and some could not make it.

“We haven’t been able to train properly, we haven’t been able to prepare for the match against Luton anything like we would have wanted to.

“Also, I’ve got players who need fitness tests, but the long and short of it is they haven’t been able to get to the ground to have them.

“It is not that we don’t want to do them, we can’t. So, it will be a case of having to do the best we can if we do have to go down to Luton tomorrow.”

“Just got confirmation from Luton, Lincoln City's match at Luton is now off. Yet to confirm if it was due to a frozen pitch or concerns regarding safety around the ground.”

“If they were schoolteachers they'd close the ground the moment they see a snowflake! seriously it should be called off, DH is right it is unfair to Imps fans. Common sense should prevail.”
