Bob Dorrian has revealed Lincoln City are determined to secure the future of their top talent by the end of next month, but only on one-year deals.

The Imps chairman has said that by the end of February, the club will be ready to start talks with their star players and manager David Holdsworth.

Dorrian explained that in an ideal situation he would like to have the manager in place before signing on players, but understood the club needs to make a statement of intent to season ticket holders ahead of next season.

"Season ticket sales in May and June are crucial for the club," said Dorrian.

"It is during those months when we have no matches and therefore the revenue streams are down.

"They are vital in making sure we keep everything stable financially, but I totally understand that nobody is going to want to make the commitment to one unless they have an indication of what the next season could hold.

"To do that we have to make signings and in an ideal world you want the manager in place first."

At present Holdsworth and all his players will see their deals run out by the end of this current season.

And if the club does keep hold of its players, the likelihood is that it will only be on year-long deals as the club continues to watch its finances in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

"One-year deals are no reflection on the ability or talent of the players or manager," said Dorrian.

"Quite simply, we are a club which cannot afford to make deals that go beyond one year at present.

"We have seen that two-year deals don't work. In the past you have found some people come to the second half of their contract and they lack motivation and commitment.

"It can be an expensive business moving them on and a club needs quite serious financial muscle to be able to afford the risk of signing more than a year."

While Dorrian admitted to being frustrated by the club's recent dip in form since December, he believes that the side has proved its ability this season.

And he feels that stability and steady progress will hopefully see the club in a position to challenge for promotion and a return to the Football League.

"We have been blighted by injuries in recent weeks, which has been a real blow," said Dorrian.

"I believe if we were injury free we could get the consistency to be a top four team. But football is not as simple as that.

"Now we have to keep plugging away and keep hold of some talented young players.

"In an ideal world, I want a manager here for the long-term who is going to develop the team and take us up that way, because quite simply we cannot do what some of the other clubs are doing and throw cash at it."

“suffolkimp - unlikely to happen mate, but it's for the best anyway. For once, a certain Chairman took my advice. Can't say anymore on here as it'll just get deleted (as my last post on this subject was).”

    “.

I see Stockport have sacked Jim Gannon again (21st in the league). How long will it take our lot to realise that Holdsworth is not the man to get us out of this mess! History will be made this season with two ex League Two Football clubs being relegated from the Blue Sq.Premier in one season (us and Stockport). For goodness sake, have a look at the league, we have the likes of ALFRETON, HYDE, WOKING, DARTFORD above us in the league..!!! Do something about it before it is too late..!!!!!!!!”

“Dorrian, you say one thing then pull the carpet from under the feet of supporters time and time again. " We are going to secure the talented players by the end of the month , BUT only on one year contracts" these players have lives and futures to secure if some one offers a lengthier contract then the possibilities are the player would go. For goodness sake Dorrian get in the real world.
When I read the headline I was a little confused and thought oh good at least Poacher has a job for another year.”

“You can only 'not afford' to give players longer than 1 years if we contnue to buy the wrong players.
If they turn out to be good ones, surely 2 years is not a risk?
e.g. We may lose Jamie Taylor on a free this summer.

I understand the point, but at some stage a good manaager has to be trusted to award a few contracts of 18 months or more to the best players.

I know over the last few seasons this has backfired on us. Paying of far more poor players than we have lost good players.
So this means choice of manager is paramount in all this. One that is a good judge of player and character”

“Is Holdsworth the best bet? Not for me. Get rid asap and get a younger person who can actually coach and develop players.
I only see years of struggle an relegations under Reg”

“"He wont find Germany as easy as the two-club league he is used to"

Not sure about that, Germany is a one club league. The only reason Bayern haven't dominated is poor management, the finances dwarf all others. Lincoln can't offer him the same level of money I fear.”
