Lincoln City fail to win appeal against Adam Smith's red card against Grimsby Town
Lincoln City have failed in their bid to have Adam Smith's red card against Grimsby Town on New Year's Day overturned.
The Imps winger was given a straight red after he fouled Bradley Woods late on in the tempestuous 1-1 draw at Blundell Park.

After reviewing the video footage the club lodged an appeal, but the Football Association disciplinary panel has stuck by the decision of referee Karl Evans to dismiss the player.
Smith will now serve a three-match ban which will rule him out of the away games at Ebbsfleet United and Southport and the home game against Newport County.

“We will certainly agree to disagree on this Cardiffimp. Think someone needs to tell the likes of Barcelona and the Spanish national side etc., that you will get nowhere by playing football.”

“Fans pay to watch football. Unfortunately if Reg is not able to deliver on this, then that might be why Cty are down by about 1,000 each week oat the gate? If I wanted to watch a bunch of thugs brawling I can go down the High Street on a Saturday night!”

“...nigelsparky whilst I also prefer attractive passing football, I'm also a realist and know that sometimes you have to play a more direct approach and be more physical and yes particularly at this level - we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Onwards and upwards the mighty Imps! :)”

“We won't win anything if DH just keeps us frustrated with his tinkering to keep his favourites happy, I can't see any changes if somebody does not speak about this with the chairman, who with respectis really fully aware of what is happening from having followed city all his life.
PLEASE somebody help.

“Cardiffimp
we should ALL remember that we are in the 'conference' and politeness and playing attractive lovely passing of the ball is not going to win matches
Absolute rubbish! you'll win games by playing attractive football at any level.”

“...whilst no one should condone any premeditated callous fouling in the hope of physically hurting someone, we should ALL remember that we are in the 'conference' and politeness and playing attractive lovely passing of the ball is not going to win matches when most of the opposition will be trying to 'knock you over' to let you know they could get some more of the same or trying to get a player reaction as it were. As i said I don't condone it but you have to play some physical stuff as well or you get rolled over. When we get promoted then some of those 'physical' players will get found and no doubt will find themselves back in the conference with another team. Let's face facts 'woeisme' Grimsby are not totally 'innocent' either and I'm sure they give as good as they get. It's all about getting the right balance. Onwards and upwards and 3 points for the Imps against the might of Ebbsfleet :)
PS. XNY556 as for concentrating on our (Imps) football skills just remember being in the top 6 only becomes important on the last day of the season not early January - there's plenty of time to win games as well as lose games - Town are not up yet and far from a certainty to go up - this league is very tight this year. See you guys in the playoffs????? :)”

“@ Woeisme ,I disagree.
Under Tilson last season we would weekly roll over for teams in the BSP and have our bellies tickled. The difference is under DH this season we have the capability to mix it up when required. Despite what you claim as 'rough house tactics' over the two games we have played some good football this season and I have seen far worse from other BSP teams.”

“XNY556
I totally agree with your analysis and yes I am a long standing and avid Town fan
Aswad Thomas was in my opinion the victim not the perpertrator of violent behaviour.
I was 10 metres away in the lower Findus Stand I believe he was largely innocent of a violent act or intimidatory behaviour.
I posted earlier that Lincoln thoroughly deserved to win on the day but this disguises the 'rough house' and nasty 'off the ball' tactics that Holdsworth is instilling intp his team.
I mentioned to my son the Imps approach reminded me of the 'Beck' teams (Cambridge Utd-19890).Hard working, physically robust, playing long balls to channels etc but so very cynical and nasty in the deployment
Very unsavoury tendency developing in his team..”

“I forgot to mention the £500 City wasted on the appeal, which would have paid a loan players wages for a week?”

“I am not surprised. If Holdswrth sends his players out with instructions to get tough withthe opposition this is inevitable - they will get booked and worst still get sent off.
I am amazed that Jake Sheridan stayed on the pitch as well despite protesting his innocence the video on you tube (link below) clearly shows im on top of the Grimsby player and he was probably scratched on the neck by the guy dragging him off?

If the teamhad concentated on using their football skills, then they would probably be in the top six now?”
