In close consultation with the club, we have reviewed the situation and looked at the potential consequences if the game goes ahead. It has been decided to cancel the match on the grounds of public safety.
Chief Inspector Kieran English said, "We understand that fans will be disappointed about the cancellation of this match but it is a friendly fixture rather than a league game and our primary concern is the safety and welfare of the general public.
"We have carefully assessed the plans and preparations we have in place for such events and have concluded, with regret, that the risk to the public is just too great.
"We are very grateful to Lincoln City Football Club for agreeing to cancel this fixture on the grounds of safety of their fans and the public of Lincoln."
Lincoln City will be making an official statement with regards to this in due course. This will include information as to how supporters can obtain a refund should they have pre-purchased tickets.

“Been safely ensconced in the Olympic stadium this weekend watching too sport without a cross word shouted. I spoke to my dad in Lincoln who said there were riot vans driving around. Then I read on the BBC that a game in Holland was cancelled for similar reasons. Football is my first love but things like this certainly make you question that. I feel like a parent trying to defend a tare away child sometimes.
Banter on here is fine and a good laugh, but actually getting a game of kick around football cancelled because a group of guys want a dust up is beyond the pale.”

“The match was a closed door affair at the King Power Stadium. No info re the city team but Leicester scorers were Dyer(2), Nugent, Vardy and King with no imps reply.
Without a striker with some sort of track record I fear goals will be hard to come by.”

“According to some social sites we lost 5-0 to Leicester behind closed doors.
Anyone know anymore or what team was put out?”

“Reading the appalling comments on this subject, confirms that morons not only maraud around our streets, they undertake unintelligent attempts at abuse on here. They all have one thing in common, they pretend they support football.
What one sport let GB down on Super Saturday? Football is the no surprise answer with another Penalty shambles, this time from someone who earns more in a week than our fabulous Gold Medal winners earn in a year.
Shame on you.”

“Bullying and insults. A pity the comments could not be more constructive. Exactly the reason why this match was cancelled!”

“Pikeboy. If you are a 47 year old manager, well done to you! Most people have to fill in an application form for a job, you clearly did not.”

“Little Leicester im afraid you a tad delusional George all it would take is for one your other tiny clubs around you like Boston or err god forbid skegness to call the police and stir up trouble then BANG your right there go's a pretty big payday for your little team but as for you comments on Leicester being a small team get your head out of your potato field and take a look in the real word ... that's the problem with living in the middle of nowhere you lose the will to think...(im a 47 year old manager...not so as senile or deluded )”
