Rob Burch believes mis-firing Lincoln City will soon hit the goal trail as he admitted sharper fitness will be a key tool to fixing their goal-scoring woes.

The Imps have found the target just nine times in 14 League Two games this season, a statistic which has left the Imps floundering in the bottom half of the table.

Boss Chris Sutton has been working intensely with the players on the training ground to correct the problem as well as signing Khano Smith and Sergio Torres to boost their firepower.

And Burch confessed the perspiration levels have been sky high in recent weeks as the Imps aim to find the goal-den touch, with fitness a key aspect of Sutton's attacking philosophy.

"I honestly think the goals will start coming," he said.

"Rene Howe has been playing up front on his own which is a difficult task.

"He can't make the chances on his own so we've been working on getting more crosses into the box.

"That's where fitness comes in as well. The manager wants us lads to get forward and then get back into the shape.

"It takes time, but our fitness levels are improving. Training has been very full on, but we're feeling the benefits of it."

“I watched the "Time of their lives - Blackburn Rovers" show on Sky last week. Apart from everyone saying what a great coach Ray (ex City centre half) Harford was, the most pertinent point was said by Tim Flowers. In his opinion, "the most important thing to get right at a football club is player recruitment". If you can get good players in you've got a chance, (Peter Taylor did this foir Brian Clugh) if you're poor in ths department all the coaching in the world might be needed to get back to where you could have been. Of course, assessment of player capabilities are about opinions, Just look how both Scott Kerr and Danny N'Guessan have divided fans on here. If the team wins the manager's opinion is vindicated, if it continually loses he gets to try elsewhere.
John Schofield was interviewed on 5 Live when we were having a great start to the season and just about all he said was that the players were doing double sessions. I guess he was aiming for us to be very fit but after Christmas we ran out of legs. i hope that Sutton can strike the right balance between fitness and ability. Up the Imps”

“There is a certain ability wach player has and it could be argued that he took them to the top end of the spectrum. To blame him for a poor defence is unfair and clutching at straws because he can only work with what he has got, not perform miracles.”

“Kovac said he added to his defensive game. Could Clark possibly be teaching technique? It's not all about, running fast and hard, playing 4-4-2 or 3-4-3 if you are chasing a game, and making people want it.”

“What exactly is he good at then Jonathan - Not the fitness side, obviously not the tactical side or the motivation side maybe he was just good at putting cones out then”

“The Lincoln players would have been worked hard in Germany that is for sure, but it has to be continuous and keep on working at it.
As for confusing Shane Clarke and Simon Clark, they are quite seperate people. Perhaps we could do with a fitness coach at Lincoln”

“The story when we went to Germany suggested the fitness camp would sort us out for the season, although obviously the implication was it would be just getting up to a level the squad could keep.
Clark is a good coach, doesn't mean he is good at doing the fitness side of football. Glad to see you are mildly obsessed with me Magoo but also for proving that you can muddle your words.”

“Surely you don't suggest a couple of days in Germany were the answer to the season's fitness issues. A non story fuelled by people with a comment for anything.”
