Lincoln City could finally boost their striking options ahead of Saturday's home clash with Cheltenham.

The Imps are tracking an as-yet unnamed frontman with a view to signing him on loan.

"We're hopeful of signing someone before the weekend on loan," explained vice-chairman Bob Dorrian, who could only confirm the position of the Imps' latest target.

Chris Sutton has recruited heavily since arriving at the club in September, signing seven players – but no out-and-out strikers – although assistant boss Ian Pearce has been used up front as a substitute.

Despite Saturday's 3-1 victory at AFC Telford United in the FA Cup, the Imps have been desperately short of goals in League Two, having scored just 10 times in 15 games.

With Paul Connor set to be out until Christmas with a long-term injury, Sutton has top scorer Rene Howe, Chris Fagan and Jamie Clarke at his disposal.

Recent signing Khano Smith, a natural winger, could also be utilised in attack.

However, while City have tightened up significantly at the back in recent weeks, goalscoring remains an issue.

Since Sutton's arrival, the size of the squad has surpassed 30, but Dorrian insists moving players out of the club is not currently a priority.

"It's fair to say the squad is a decent size at the moment," admitted Dorrian.

"But that is not a major concern presently.

"If someone comes in for one of our players, we might says 'yes'. On the other hand, we might say 'no'.

"Obviously since Chris has come in, new players have been brought in and others have been left out, but it's now up to them to prove their worth.

"And it was nice to see some of the existing players come back into the side on Saturday at Telford and do a good job."

Meanwhile, City have extended the loan spell of Anthony Pulis (pictured left) until January.

The tough-tackling midfielder initially joined the Imps in October for a month from Southampton, but has impressed Sutton enough to extend his stay at Sincil Bank until January 7.
