Former Lincoln City midfielder Danny Hone loving life at Gainsborough Trinity

Danny Hone is glad weeks of frustration are finally over as he finally kick-started his career at Gainsborough Trinity.

The former Lincoln defender was given his first start of the season against Worcester last week which coincided with a first clean sheet of the season.

And after weeks of sitting on the bench waiting for his chance, the former Lincoln City defender is hoping he has done enough to state his case for a regular starting berth, writes Dave Marshall.

"No-one likes sitting on the bench, no matter who they are or where they are playing," said Hone.

"It's never nice, but you have to be professional and do everything in the right way, so when you do get your chance you are ready to take it.

"After every game, even if I haven't played, I have been doing my running when everyone else is getting changed.

"But I have always had that kind of self discipline, I have had it instilled into me since I was a kid by my dad (former Lincoln City midfielder Mark Hone).

"There have been times when I could have just gone into the changing rooms and got dressed, but it is going to be a long season and I knew, at some point, I would get my chance."

Hone's ability to hit the ground running in Saturday's Blue Square Bet North clash has certainly benefited Trinity who have now moved up to 13th in the table.

The superb full debut may well have earned the central defender another start on his birthday this Saturday away at Solihul Moors. Hone, who will turn 22, is relishing the opportunity.

"I have played there once as a youth player and it is a very tough place to go," Hone added.

"But what I have discovered in this league is every team can beat each other. There isn't an easy game.

"We are expecting a tough one but when you look at the players we have here, there is enough talent in the dressing room to win games like this. We are aiming to be in the play-offs or better."

Trinity's first home victory of the new campaign has certainly lifted the mood around the Northolme.

And, after at last showing the Trinity supporters what he can do, Hone reflected on his move to the second tier of non-league football.

"To be honest, it has been the easiest of transitions for me," added Hone.

"I came to Trinity when, to be honest, my career has been nose-diving to a certain extent. I don't know whether that has been my own fault or just bad luck.

"But the players here have been fantastic. The camaraderie is great, there are no big-time Charlies here at all."
