The Imps' official Twitter account replied: 'Can you therefore get the paperwork signed and sent to us so the move can be completed???'

The club also responded sharply to another Twitter user who wrote: 'Surely the unprofessional approach is announcing a loan move that hasn't even happened yet???'

Thomson, 23, did complete his move later in the day and is eligible to make his Lincoln debut at Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.

The Portsmouth-born midfielder is of Trinidadian descent and has twice represented Trinidad & Tobago at full International level.

He began his career as part of the Southampton youth system in 2005. His development saw him progress through the ranks to make his Saints first-team debut in August 2009, in a Championship match against Cardiff City.

He joined Newport from Forest Green Rovers and has made 16 appearances this season.
