Sutton's move to bring Chris Herd back to Sincil Bank is halted by injury
CHRIS SUTTON'S attempts to bring Chris Herd back to Lincoln City have been thwarted after the Aston Villa midfielder picked up an injury.
The Imps boss had wanted to sign the highly-rated Australian on loan, after his brilliant impact at Sincil Bank last season.

Chris Herd was on loan at Lincoln City last season.
But Sutton, speaking in his exclusive Echo column today, says those plans were effectively ripped up after learning he was on the sidelines.
The City chief also wanted Fulham's Matthew Saunders and Villa defender Nathan Baker, but says their success at Lincoln last season has been more of a hindrance than a help.
"We wanted to bring Chris Herd back because he did fantastically well for us last season," said Sutton.
"But the problem is that he is injured and he is going to be out for another two months which is a blow.
"To be honest, we've explored bringing back a few players who did well for us last season.
"The difficulty is that, because they have done so well, they have moved onto to another level and their teams want to take a look at them.
"Even though I missed out on a defender and midfielder, I won't stop looking."

“Moulton - James comments are far more constructive that's all I was trying to say Yours are just slagging off a lot of the time. Yours are just adding to the general doom and gloom around the team at the moment. And reading between the lines Sutton/Jackson and the team do not like it. And nor would I if I was a player. What exactly does 65 years add to anything? I could have been to 1 game and still have an opinion. 65 years should mean you realise that success comes once every ten years if we are lucky and that Sutton needs time/support and patience from the fans.
The fans were so fickle yesterday, and if were going to 'play' football we need bags of patience..
I have opinions. Here is one on the loans.
I'd have Baker back in a shot. But I do agree if there was an experienced player to sign that would be preferable. I also hope Hone ends up being a fixture with us and does a Somma at Darlo gaining vital experience.
When it comes to strikers though, I reckon a year long loan is totally fine. If we signed a striker that did well, we'd do well to keep him longer than 1 season anyway. So on that basis I agree with Ben Hutchinson being here.
Clever use of loans and a good squad is the way forward - in my opinion of course.”

“What Moulton Imp is saying is that we desperately need an experienced centre half at the club as a permanent signing. That's been the case since last season.
As good as Herd and Saunders were for us last season, they are not a priority. Pierce can't carry on much longer, but at present he's vital to the side. Baker is too young to be the dominating centre back we need, and Watts is better playing alongside experience.
Loan signings are only a short term fix anyway. If they do well, then they are either rated higher by their clubs (Lichaj and Somma) or they go out on loan higher up the divisions (as will probably happen with Herd and Saunders).”

“Steve, I have supported the Imp's for 65 years and do attend matches. I therfore form opinions based on what I see on the pitch and express them sometimes on here.
I'ts so easy for people like you to criticise me when you don't have any opinions of your own to express on how to improve the squad.
By the way only 2,700 City supporters turned up again for yesterdays game. Maybe you should think about why the club has lost 1,000 supporters over the past year and aim your silly comments at them.”

“Moulton - Jarretts reaction to scoring yesterday was aimed directly at people like you. Get a grip and support your team.
I am not saying your opinion is wrong, just the way you say it and twist everything against Sutton and the team.”
