Lincoln City look set to appeal Adam Smith's controversial red card which marred their derby draw with Grimsby on New Year's Day.

The former Mansfield winger was instantly dismissed for a tackle on defender Bradley Wood in stoppage time having only just come on as a substitute in the 88th minute.

City were livid with Karl Evans' decision and the Echo understands the Imps have enough evidence to support their belief he clearly won the ball.

Should any appeal fail, Smith will serve a three-match ban.
