LINCOLN CITY striker Ben Hutchinson believes his goal on Saturday could turn out to be the spark he needs to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

The on-loan Celtic hitman was rewarded for his impressive work rate with his first goal in City colours following a clever turn and snap-shot from close range, which gave Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee no chance.

Hutchinson's 88th minute goal at the B2net Stadium came during a late rally by Chris Sutton's men which left 688 visiting Lincoln supporters believing a draw was a possibility.

However, the high-flying Spireites had earned a two-goal cushion through Dwayne Mattis in the first half and Craig Davies on the hour mark, which proved to be enough to take all three points.

But if City are to take any positives from Saturday's League Two defeat it could be the performance of Hutchinson who has impressed fans in his three League Two appearances so far.

"I always say that if I score one, then others will follow, so I am happy that I scored, but obviously disappointed that we lost," he said.

"We will see what the next game brings and hopefully I will be playing and hopefully I will get another one.

"Chesterfield played good football, but I don't think they are streets ahead of us. But they will be one of the good teams in the league this season and they will probably do well.

"It's really disappointing. We came out in the first half the better team and then got hit with a freak goal from a set-piece which we have been trying to cut out so it's a bit of a sucker punch.

"Then we came out in the second half slow and they get another one and then they're scrambling. Then, in the last 10 or 15 minutes we kind of stepped it up and started committing men forward.

"When we did that we looked a threat and we scored the goal. We seemed to be a threat again after that and we were unlucky not to score again."

Hutchinson was brought to Lincoln on a season-long loan by Sutton following a disappointing 2-0 defeat by Torquay at Sincil Bank.

During that game the Imps' frontline missed a host of chances and it was hoped the former Middlesborough man could be the answer for City in front of goal.

Lincoln have already witnessed what the Nottingham-born frontman is capable of after he netted twice in Celtic's 4-1 win against the Imps in their pre-season friendly. With his first strike now under his belt, the 22-year-old is hoping to be just as deadly for the Imps.

"We seem to be unlucky all the time," said the striker, who cost Celtic £1m.

"But we have to turn that around and we have to make our own luck. It's just disappointing that we didn't get at least a draw.

"But I am settling in really well and am getting on well with all the boys. "I am enjoying my time here, but results wise it could have been better.

"All in all, the lads, the gaffer and everyone has made me feel very welcome."

“Amusingly Codtastic your pun has let you down as you have never been in the Championship either so your pun is struggling there. You got relegated before the change of name, picky I know but your pun fails. And now you laguish below us, and unfortunately for you this is now”

“half of you are idiots, sutton is building a team, he cant do that in a few months, we have to give him this season and the start of next, i have never had so much faith in a manager for years,
remember, he has a small budget, several teams in league 2 now have a lot of cash to splash, we don't, get a grip, let him get on with the job.
have we ever had 2 players as good as carolyn and jarrett ? mot for a long time i would say.
we need to get a good centre back and a good strong midfielder and we will be sorted and easilt capable of play offs this year. we also need to get rid of kerr, he should be called crabby, all he does is pass sideways and lose the ball.
i don't know who you lot expect at sincil bank ? sir alex ferguson as manager with drogba, scholes and rooney ?
you make me sick, so pathetic.
i will be at the bank for the next game cheering on the imps who i have supported for 30 years and will do for the next 30, its in my blood, i hate part time fans, ooooohhhh lincoln aren't playing well, lets sack the manager, idiots.
even if we did sack sutton, who would we get, we can't afford anyone better then him.
you don't have a clue about football half of you lot.”

“Yawn. Another day, another bunch of 14-fingered, fish-stinking idiots banging on about their history. Quite ironic, given that that's exactly what they'll be by the time Fenty's finished with them. Still, at least then they'll be able to buy a 'luxury' apartment on the site of Blunder Park...”

“Re Davy Jones, Locker. Status Quo are bidding to become the new sponsors of Lincoln City. It has emerged that their single Down Down is in line with this season's strategy and would look good on the front of their shirts.”
