Lincoln Ladies boss Glen Harris has stepped up his search for a striker by handing a trial to New Zealand Under-20 international Katie Rood.

The Kiwi will spend three weeks with the Lady Imps and has joined the squad for their pre-season tour to Majorca, writes Mark Whiley.

Gone: Kay Hawke has left Lincoln Ladies after failing to hold down a first-team place last season

Harris has already snared Precious Hamilton from Doncaster Rovers Belles, but wants to sign at least one more forward before the Women's Super League kicks off in April.

The Lady Imps are also in the market for a new goalkeeper following Kay Hawke's departure from the club.

Hawke was kept out of the side by Nicola Hobbs last season and Harris wants to ensure his number one has competition.

"I don't want someone to just be back-up to Nic, I want someone to put pressure on her," said Harris.

"I think Nic plays better when she's under pressure."

The Lincoln boss has made tentative contact with an American keeper, who has been left without a club following the collapse of the Women's Professional Soccer League.

The closure of the league has left several British players without a club, including England legend Kelly Smith.

Harris believes some, or all, will return home, but said: "It will come down to pounds, shillings and pence.

"It was a fully professional league and there was a lot more money in the game than there is over here.

"However, I would say that money is not as important as it seems to be in the men's game."

The other British players who have been plying their trade in America are Alex Scott, Karen Bardsley and Scottish defender Ifeoma Dieke, who is playing on loan in Sweden.

England player Eni Aluko had already quit the league and has joined Birmingham, who the Lady Imps face on the opening day of the Super League season.
