Lincoln Prison no longer under threat of closure
Lincoln Prison is no longer under threat of closure after the Government has today announced plans to close four other jails.
Jeremy Wright, Minister for Prisons and Rehabilitation, has revealed plans to shut jails in Blundeston, Dorchester, Northallerton and Reading. The closures will save the Government around £30 million a year.
HMP Verne will be converted into an immigration removal centre.
The decision should end doubts over Lincoln Prison’s short-term future. The Lincolnshire Echo’s “Save Lincoln Prison” award-winning campaign helped rescue the under-threat site in November, last year.
