John Wilkinson has said he will be looking to add pace and power to the Whites' line-up next season.

The Lincoln United manager takes his team to their final game of the season at Market Drayton in UniBond League Division One (South) tomorrow (3pm).

And while he will be keeping one eye on his current crop of players, his mind is already contemplating the work needed to be done during the summer.

"I have been looking into what is needed for several weeks now," said Wilkinson.

"We've had a difficult season, but we've also learned a lot of lessons from it.

"I took over in November after Seamus Lawless stepped down and the first goal was to make sure the club stayed up.

"After that it was about spending time trying to assess what we had and what we need.

"There have been several games where we have been out-muscled and we are lacking strength and pace.

"Those are the two areas that have stood out and we have to try to draft in the right players during the summer."

Wilkinson is a true believer in pure football.

However, the experienced manager is humble enough to realise that playing that style of game is not going to get them promotion out of the division.

"The physical game is where it is won or lost in the division," said Wilkinson.

"I was watching Retford United play Boston United in the UniBond League Challenge Cup, at Ashby Avenue, and it was clear to me that those two teams, who play in the division above us, play a much more controlled game.

"Our current team would be better suited to that division.

"So while I like to try and play football I have to accept that it is not always the right way."

Wilkinson has said that he will also be paying close attention to his reserve team this coming pre-season.

"The coaches, Martin Burnett, Stuart Bell and Russ Binnington have done a great job with the reserves and deserve a lot of credit," said Wilkinson.

"They've got some talented youngsters down there and they will be included in pre-season training."
