LINCOLN UNITED manager John Wilkinson paid tribute to his side's work-rate after the Whites secured their place in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round with a 4-2 victory at Boston Town in last night's replay.

Sam Wilkinson bagged a brace while Sam Wilkinson and Scott Coupland also got on the scoresheet for United who will travel to Northern Counties East League Division One side, Shirebrook Town in the next round on September 11.

United went 2-0 up through Coupland and Wilkinson before Lee Orrey pulled a goal back on the half hour mark.

Mullarkey regained United's two-goal advantage two minutes later and Wilkinson put the tie beyond Town's reach, 10 minutes from time.

"We are delighted to be in the next round," said Wilkinson.

"We played some smashing football.

"We had some good possession but gave two goals away and in the second half it became a bit of a battle.

"Our work-rate impressed me though and I did not have to make any substitutions until the last couple of minutes, so that says a lot."

United return to Evo-stik Division One South action at Ashby Avenue on Saturday when Leek Town are the visitors.

United are in tenth position after two games with Saturday's opponents six places below them.

And Wilkinson admitted he would probably stick to a 4-4-2 formation which has served him well this term.
