Athlete Richard Sargent, 20, from Lincoln, says flying the flag for the Paralympic Games at the opening ceremony was a "mind-blowing" experience.

He and seven players from the Great Britain under-22 wheelchair basketball team carried the official banner of the games at London's Olympic Park on August 29, watched by millions worldwide.

Team captain Mr Sargent, who attended North Kesteven School, in North Hykeham, and lives in Witham Wharf, Lincoln, said: "The ceremony was mind-blowing. People have asked why I was so stoney faced but I had to be, otherwise I would have cried.

"It was a feeling I have never experienced before."
