Chris Carr, Branch Manager of R G Carter Building Ltd, Lincoln said: “As a local contractor R G Carter is delighted to work on this exciting and forward-thinking scheme.

"There is a strong sense of community in the district and being involved in the next stage in the life of the Sleaford Leisure Centre provides the opportunity to continue with our local investment in both trading activity and employment.”

Previous projects include The Epic Centre at Lincolnshire Showground and a new Fire Station at RAF Waddington.

R G Carter won a prestigious silver award under the Considerate Constructors Scheme for their previous work with North Kesteven District Council building two straw bale houses at Martin.

Councillor Marion Brighton OBE said; “We are delighted that a local contractor has been appointed.

"This is great news for the local economy, something we as a district council support heavily."

The leisure centre will remain closed for a year with practical completion planned for August 30, 2013 and the opening to the public scheduled for September 27.

Until then, customers are able to use other facilities in the area including Harpers on East Road, Grantham Mere’s Leisure Centre, North Hykeham Leisure Centre, Spalding Leisure Centre and Bourne Leisure Centre.
