Lincoln gets go-ahead for new technical college
Lincoln will get one of 15 new University Technical Colleges (UTCs).
It will specialise in core science and engineering, supported by the University of Lincoln, Siemens and Lincoln College, along with other city companies.
It comes after four years of work by the Baker Dearing Educational Trust (BDT), the Department for Education and businesses.
UTCs are for 14 to 19-year-olds and have been designed as a solution to increasing the number of technicians and engineers in the country.

They are all supported by a university, local employers and often a further education college. Each UTC provides at least one technical specialism alongside key GCSEs in English, maths and science, as well as a foreign language, humanities, finance, business, entrepreneurial and employability skills.
There are no entrance tests for UTCs.
Nick Muntz, managing director at Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery Ltd said: "Siemens strongly believes that the UTC initiative will provide a unique opportunity for employers to engage with future workforce."
