Lincoln mosque plans given go-ahead by city councillors
A new £500,000 mosque in Lincoln has been granted unanimous approval by city councillors.
The proposed two-storey place of worship at the old Boultham Dairy initially sparked controversy which led to a petition against the plans from Boultham Residents’ Association.
Members were concerned about the level of traffic the building would bring to the area.
But the group has since come out in support of the mosque scheme put forward by the Islamic Association of Lincoln.

The City of Lincoln Council only received five letters of objection – mostly about concerns over traffic congestion - while six letters were sent in which backed the project.
City planners recommended councillors approved the scheme, on the condition that 68 car parking spaces and entry to the site from Dixon Street are in place before the building is used.
Planners had already approved the scheme in principle this time last year, when a new supermarket and housing on the site were also agreed.
A report to the council stated: “The access, landscaping, appearance, scale and layout proposed are consistent with the details provided at the outline stage and will result in a development will fit satisfactorily into its local context.”
The building will also be available for use by the wider community.

“You been there then Eatmygoal ? I must admit I haven't been there in over twenty years so maybe it has changed then.
Obviously myself and others on here are making it all up! All we are doing is trying to stir things up? Not sure why we would want to do that though. Or is it we are saying what we have seen and experienced?
Anyway I know what I have seen and experienced, and if people like you want to bury your heads' in the sand, then that is your prerogative, but please leave your posts without using your rather patronising and condescending manner.”

Don't want to be too critical but making a point about Muslims by using something that is simply foreign to you and relating to a completely different religion with a very antagonistic relationship with Muslims is not really helping your case. In addition the areas you talk about have always been in transition. Southall with the Welsh and Brick Lane with Jewish. The sign you have put up for Brick lane is Hindi, in the 1900s it was probably in ***dish. Crucially it is in English as the dominant lettering showing that they are not taking over but have a nod to the diversity, in fact really it is a bit of a joke sign and hardly an attempt to claim the area. It is far from a no go area, same as Southhall, in fact both are diverse and places that indiginous people seek out to go to.
Don'tByTheSun, fair comment.”

“And another - Friday, November 09 2012, 7:38PM - "Mr_Sneer 'Um, no I won't, because I'll know that I'm an Englishman in England and I'm not actually scared by people who happen to have a different ethnicity to me' - You must be very brave as there are places I'd worry about up West Yorkshire driving in a tank, let a car or walk through even with body armour. I have though known people in hospital who tried it at the wrong times."”

“Oh dear some of my comments have disappeared - Well luckily I kept them - Friday, November 09 2012, 7:02PM - "Mr_Sneer 'So in other words, every single possible outcome proves that you're right' - you've got it in one. Alas the ones who can see I'm right seem to be almost up to the ones who are denying the truth. I suppose you have been up in the places I've shown to attempt to prove me wrong. I know anyone who' s been round at the right times or lived in the right West Yorkshire or Lancashire places will agree though. There are also more than places than Bradford in West Yorkshire (as of September and Early August). There are though some places where permission is not allowed which I've visited. P.S. I happen to come from West Yorkshire (The West Riding)."”

I suggest when you are travelling around London that you take of those blinkers of yours off.
I lived approximately 40 miles west of London and worked in those parts for many a year, so again I speak from experience. If you ever do decide to visit Southall, you will feel like a foreigner walking the streets believe me.”

“"Eatmygoal get yourself down to Southall, Shroreditch to name a couple of areas and you will see the street names etc in Urdu."
Why don't you show us, seeing as you're so familiar with these areas? Here you go, I'll start you off:

Click and drag the little man on to the map, find a nice clear shot of one of these signs, then click on the button that looks like a link - geddit? - and then copy and paste the link to here.
With such a plethora of signs to choose from, it should be a piece of cake for someone as talented as yourself, should it not?”
