Lincoln music scene flourishing with new venues to try
It is most encouraging to note the number of new venues in Lincoln and the surrounding area promoting live music evenings catering for a wide range of tastes in music, as demonstrated by three events that I attended recently, writes John Toogood.
The Sounds Easy Big Band played their bi-monthly gig at The Grafton House Ballroom on their traditional second Friday of the month at the Grafton Ballroom in Lincoln, to a most responsive house of Big Swing Band connoisseurs, and regulars.
One of the finest reeds player in the country Tony Giles, finding time to break off from his touring duties with The Good Guys Orchestra to play with his line up of 'All Stars' at the charming Bustard Inn in South Rauceby last Wednesday.
The usual suspects Mark, Ed, John and Steve joined Tony to play a section of Jazz from a number of composers, which I had not heard them play before.

The highlights of which were 'So What' by Miles Davis, featuring Steve on Trumpet, 'Blue Train' by John Coltraine featuring Tony alternating on Alto, Soprano and Clarinet, Wes Montgomery's 'West Coast Blues' the Simon Romberg classic from The New Moon 'Softly as in a Morning Sunrise' and 'Just Like That' featuring Mark on the Kawai ES6 Keyboard.
Back in Lincoln on Thursday evening Bar 67 at The Lincoln Hotel have undertaken the role of an 'uphill' weekly music venue with different artists each week playing in the intimate surroundings of the Cellar Bar. This week Jack Marshall from Crewe was the featured artist with his captivating mix of blues, pop and gypsy music got the most enthusiastic audience on their feet at the end for the 3 encore numbers.
If you also consider the View Bar in Lincoln is coming onboard with their weekly 'Sociable Singles Club' featuring funky blues soul and swing, I can not remember when we have such had a good cross section of music to enjoy, and long may it reign.
