Lincoln has a gold post box to celebrate Sophie Wells' Paralympic success as a part of the Great Britain Equestrian Team.

22-year-old Sophie Wells, who was born in Lincoln, played a crucial role in the equestrian team gold medal performance and also scooped two individual medals for Great Britain in the dressage competition.

Talking of her Paralympic exploits Wells said: "Life will never be the same after this. We'll never be able to top the experience."

Royal Mail transformed the post box in Castle Square in the Bailgate area of the city, on September 7.

Painting started at 10am and took three hours to complete with the finished product being revealed at 1pm.

In further recognition of Sophie and the equestrian team's success, special individual first class stamps have also gone on sale today.

The gold medal stamps are on sale at around 500 dedicated post offices across the UK and are currently in stock in Lincoln at the St Giles post office in the Carlton Centre.

A further 4,700 branches across the UK will be stocking the stamps over the next week, including further post offices in the city and across Lincolnshire.

The stamps are presented for purchase as a sheet of two first class stamps for £1.20 and the sheets carry additional information about the winning athletes.

Wells' trio of medals includes a gold in the team grade IV event, individual championship silver and silver in the freestyle test.
