"I volunteered for the games as I realised that I would be extremely unlikely to ever get the same opportunity again as I think it is unlikely that the games will be back in the UK in my lifetime. I feel so privileged to be given such a wonderfully exciting chance to not only represent my country but also my profession at this prestigious world event," she added.

The medical emergency team has volunteers from disciplines including hospital consultants, GPs, dentists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, nurses, and midwives, many of who have come from across the globe.

The team will be responsible for the care of the athletes, officials, spectators and workers at various events.
