"Most of the hairdressers are self-employed and have a vested interest in giving the best possible service.

"In any economic climate you should aim to offer the very best service but make it affordable.

"We would like to thank all our clients who voted for us. We really appreciate it."

Second place in the customer vote went to Junxion Hairdressing, in Lincoln, which is run by Luke Sleight. Sophie Jenkinson, 24, a barber at the salon in Boultham Park Road, said: "Customers obviously like what we are doing because they keep coming back.

"I think people also like the fact that we are local to them and they can come in here and have a good chat and a laugh."

In joint third place came Lilacs Hair Designs, in Bunkers Hill, and Austin Hair Design, in Kirton in Lindsey.

Claire Cutler, the owner of Lilacs, said: "We are quite a small salon with three employees and a couple of self-employed girls and we were up against some big names."

Hayley Wood, from Austin Hair Design, said: "I think people voted for us because we always offer good service and that keeps people coming back."

To enter the 2012 contest, salons placed adverts in the Lincolnshire Echo. They were then each given a poster to put in their salon and business cards to get clients to vote for them.
