Lincoln smokers urged to break their habit
Shoppers in Lincoln city centre were given an impromptu dance display in a bid to cut the number of smokers in the city.
The specially-choreographed flashmob was performed by around 50 members of artsNK on behalf of the Phoenix NHS Stop Smoking Service, outside its new branch in the Cornhill.
-

The surprise show began with five people dancing to a music remix.
In traditional flashmob style – first popularised by T-Mobile commercials – the performers mingled as normal members of the public and then suddenly began a dance routine.
The idea was to show people they can break from the crowd and quit their smoking habit ahead of the build-up to national No Smoking Day on Wednesday.
Kelly Birkin, project officer for Phoenix, said: "This is an exciting and innovative way to draw attention to a serious issue. It is crucial that we give smokers as much help and support as possible to quit."
The surprise show began with five people dancing to a remix of music, who were gradually joined by others for the six-minute number. All the performers then walked into the Phoenix Health Shop to draw attention to the services on offer there.
For help to stop smoking, call Phoenix on 0800 840 1533 or text 'No Smoking Day' to 077814 81717.

“Smoke free ideology has cost the tax payer half a BILLION pounds in five years. It is waste of NHS money when we know the risks, and people still continue to smoke. Better that the funds go directly to patient care and smokers get back some of that 10 Billion they pay in tobacco tax from the NHS without complaint from those whose aim is to eradicate tobacco before then moving onto something else in the puritanical agenda!”

“What I would like to know is this. If the government are successful and everybody stops smoking (fat chance), where will they get the money from that they currently rake in through tax on cigarettes and tobacco????”

“Nonsense........Thats what this is, how much has this stop smoking campaign cost the taxpayer over the years, has it been a success? NO, smoking rates are Up all over the country, people will not be told what to do any longer, the fact is people choose to smoke or choose not to,it is time for this prohibition and discrimination of smokers to stop, and it is time to stop the funding of all these anti-smoking quangos and save the taxpayer millions of pounds a year.”

“I quit smoking just over 6 months ago and to be honest, as Lynn said previous in the comments, none of the help on offer would have been of any assistance to me. If a person wishes to quit the help may help. But they have to WANT to quit.
I only smoked 10 per day, but even that was costing me £3 per day. £18 per week. Roughly £72 per month.
Sounds like a bit of a laugh for the participants and onlookers!”

“How on earth anyone can afford to smoke defeats me, except maybe roll-ups. I stopped a few years' ago, but it was difficult. I knew the time was right for me, but it took a lot of will power and determination. I don't think any of the help on offer here would have been of any assistance. It was up to me, and me alone.”
