Lincoln takes part in national music festival Oxjam

A charity event is bringing music to Lincoln today, showcasing local talent.

Shoppers have been entertained with free live music from the Oxfam shop in Cornhill all morning before the main events begin.

Oxjam Lincoln Takeover starts in Walkabout on the High Street at 3pm until midnight, costing £3 per ticket.

Cafe Portico at The Terrace is offering live acoustic, jazz and indie acts from 5.30pm and access to all events costs a £6 donation.

Bands performing include The Warbirds, Robots Found Errors, Stereoepic, Beth Morris and Ramshackle Serenade.

Event manager, Bukky Ojo said: "This is all about the water aid appeal and the money helps people in needy countries but it is also a local festival that brings home grown talent to the forefront."

Two young performers, 11-year-olds Maisie Shelbourne and Ella Schulze, from Lincoln got their first chance to take the public stage.

Maisie Shelbourne said: "Our band doesn't have a name or anything yet but we performed at our school leavers assembly and now I feel so glad we did this, it was cool."

Ella Schulze said: "We do band practices at each others houses and have good fun and we mess about a lot."

Oxjam is Oxfam's month-long music festival. It runs all through October with hundreds of events around the UK, all organised by volunteers who know and love their local music scene, all raising money to save lives around the world.
