the signs on Waterside South are quite clear. There is a huge 'No Entry' sign at the entrance to Waterside South, along with a sign saying 'Pedestrian precinct, no vehicles at any time'. There are also no parking signs on all the lamposts leading down to the square where the ice rink is being set up.

If people can't read or ignore the signs, then it's their problem when they get a ticket. As to disabled people being forced out of town, they have their own designated bays all over the place, and I'm sure we won't see any decline in the numbers of blue badge holders parking on the double yellow lines in St Mary's Street, which they are entitled to do.”

The government is encouraging all local authorities to take on parking enforcement. It's something the police haven't enforced regularly for some years.

The new enforcement officers will patrol all streets where parking restrictions exist, but will spend more time in the main urban areas because that is where most of the parking issues are.

The restrictions help keep people moving, reduce dangerous and inconsiderate parking, and mean people can use parking bays near their local shop without having to pay for parking.

This isn't about making money - the cost of the scheme is expected to be more than the income. The officers are NOT set quotas to meet and the fine levels are set in line with government guidance.

As long as motorists stick to the 'signs and lines' they will have nothing to worry about.”

I'm no expert, but doesn't a second person reading what you write and asking simple questions help ensure clarity?

My current employer includes a Freepost address on all correspondence to return any letters that are not clear in their meaning. Individual workers can then be taken to task for failing their public duty.
