THE re-birth of engineering and innovation in Lincolnshire will be keynote issues as business leaders gather later this year.

RAF Cranwell, near Sleaford, hosts the second Lincolnshire Business Convention on Lincolnshire Day, October 1.

Holder of the land speed record between 1983 and 1997, Richard Noble, and Richard Whittle, son of inventor of the jet engine Sir Frank Whittle, will be the guest speakers.

Lincolnshire County Council investment and marketing manager Shelagh Coates said: "It's very much a business to business network opportunity. Engineering has died a little bit. What we are trying to do is bring it back into the county. With the engineering school being set up at the University of Lincoln, it's about making sure we don't lose that trade and expertise."

Marketing partner of Streets Chartered Accountants James Pinchbeck added: "This is the second year and the fact that it takes place on Lincolnshire Day means we will highlight enterprise in the county.

"This year the event is about engineering, with a flying theme. It will highlight the importance of engineering and innovation in Lincolnshire."

Federation of Small Businesses regional organiser for Lincolnshire Michael Self said: "Generally, getting businesses together proves a good thing and networking is very important.

"At the moment, technology is a double-edged sword. It makes it easier to contact people but at the same time it can also make it difficult. If seeking to do business, doing it face-to-face can be the real breakthrough.

"But people should not regard networking as an event that produces a result on the day. Normally it takes a few sessions. The more you see them, the more trust you can have, and trust is very important in business."

Lincoln Business Club chairmanNicki Gray said last year's event was "excellent" and she would highly recommend people to go.

Ms Gray, chief executive of business development and support company Blinc, said: "All networking for businesses is the key for getting help and support from fellow business owners and getting new business. Network, network, network is the key."

Tickets are £35 with availability limited. Get them online at www.lincolnshirebusinessconvention.com
