Lincolnshire Lancaster crew honoured in Denmark 70 years on

A memorial has been unveiled in Denmark this afternoon to 7 Lincolnshire airmen killed in action during the Second World War.

The 44 Squadron Lancaster from RAF Waddington was shot down by a German fighter in March 1943 during a mission to lay mines near German-held ports in the Baltic.

The Danish Defence Brotherhood, which is similar to the Royal British Legion, raised £9,000 for the 6ft granite memorial in Fredericia.

The men from Lancaster ED305 were Sgt Gordon Black, Sgt Charles Brown, Flying Officer Robert Carr, Sgt Charles Cook, Sgt Alfred Healey, Sgt Geoffrey Love and Sgt Brian Smith.
