EGG throwers from across the globe gathered to watch the world championships.

And after a day of intense competition, visitors saw an international collection of winners take honours.

It took place on Sunday at Swaton, near Sleaford.

In the target-throwing competition, which required competitors to throw eggs at gravy wrestling Britain's Got Talent star Joel Hicks, a Dutch six-year-old Emily Van Der Weyden scooped the crown.

The Russian Egg Roulette, which asks contenders to smash eggs against their forehead, was won by the Irish team.

The static relay prize went to a team comprising dutch and English members. The teams were required to throw and catch eggs along a 100- metre course.

Andy Dunlop, world president of the World Egg Throwing Federation, said: "During a blistering hot day that played havoc with egg stability, a larger-than- ever crowd gathered to watch not only international players, but also the first Star Wars-themed battle."

"Thanks to all those that took part."
