Lincolnshire Co-operative staff carry the flag for good causes
Hundreds of Lincolnshire Co-operative staff will skip, hula-hoop, rollerskate and push trolleys in a 425 mile relay to raise money for good causes.
The Flying the Flag Relay takes place from Tuesday, June 26, until Saturday, July 7, and will involve members of staff carrying a special flag around every one of Lincolnshire Co-op’s 75 foodstores.

All the teams have been tasked with finding weird and wonderful ways of travelling to the next stage of the relay.
And they all have one big challenge in common – they can’t use any motorised transport.

Methods dreamed up to complete the course include horse and carts, tandem bicycles, wheelbarrows, juggling, egg and spoon, cycling and running.
Money raised through sponsorship and collections during the relay will go towards Lincolnshire Co-op’s two charities for 2012, Plan UK and Pascal.
At Bracebridge Heath Foodstore, staff will travel the 2 miles to Tealby Street in Lincoln to take on a mini Olympics. The team at Queen Elizabeth Road Foodstore, also in Lincoln, will get to Burton Road Foodstore 1.3 miles away using a wheelbarrow full of baked beans.
Staff from other stores including Winning Post and Brant Road will dress up in Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa outfits, while others will be on rollerskates.
Queen Elizabeth Road Community Liason Representative Emma Bell said: “We’re doing something a bit different. We’re borrowing a wheelbarrow from some nearby builders and filling it with cold baked beans. Our colleague Bev Humphreys is going to sit in it and we’ll be taking it in turns to push her down the road. I think it’ll be ok, but I don’t know about Bev.”
The relay is taking place during national Co-operatives Fortnight from June 23 to July 7 - an awareness campaign that aims to show off the diversity and benefits of the co-operative movement.
