Lincolnshire residents evacuated in floods practice
THREE caravan parks along the East Coast have been evacuated in an effort to be prepared in the event of coastal flooding.
Exercise Towbar saw 21 residents evacuated from Sutton Springs, Seacroft Parks and Coastfields sites.
Head of emergency planning at Lincolnshire County, David Powell, said: "We have been working hard for a number of years to ensure the community is well prepared for coastal flooding.
"Businesses, in particular caravan sites, also need to be prepared with their own flood evacuation plan in place.

"They need to know what to do should they receive a call saying flooding is likely."
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs provided funding to support the exercise led by Lincolnshire Joint Emergency Service; including Lincolnshire County Council, East Midlands Ambulance Service, Environment Agency, Lincolnshire Police, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, East Lindsey District Council and The British Red Cross.
Emergency planning officer for the joint emergency management service, Hayley Harrison, said: "We've had some fantastic feedback from residents.
"A number of them felt reassured by the exercise, others found it useful to talk to agencies involved, to also understand their role in everything, and also found it useful to see how the evacuation works."
Residents were evacuated from their caravans and moved to Theddlethorpe Village Hall where the emergency services briefed participants.
Residents, husband and wife Chas and Kat Hickman, said: "We have been visiting the area for three or four years so it was nice to know what to do if the worst did happen - particularly after the recent coverage of the 1953 floods."
Each year a campaign entitled 'We're ready for flooding in Lincolnshire - are you? takes place along the coast. It highlights the risks of coastal flooding and the need for local people and businesses to be prepared.
