THE police investigation into AthenaNews.com found some of its customers had actually abused children.

One Lincolnshire suspect was arrested by detectives on an aircraft returning from the Philippines.

He was sentenced to six months in prison at Lincoln Crown Court.

Another case involved an ex-teacher in Lothian and Borders who was convicted of possessing indecent images of children and as a result of the media coverage of the court case, past pupils came forward to volunteer information about being the victims of historical abuse.

An additional investigation was launched which led to the ex-teacher's conviction for indecently assaulting two children.

The deputy head of Cumbrian NHS Trust pleaded guilty of possessing indecent images of children which were recovered by police.

He was given a community sentence with a sex offenders' internet treatment programme and banned from working with children for ten years. He was also put on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years.

A Devon and Cornwall scout leader and ex-school governor was given a 26-week prison sentence and a school crossing patrol worker from Humberside was sentenced to eight months in prison with a five-year sex prevention order and a requirement to sign the Sex Offenders' Register.
