EVERY little helps – and this is no more evident than at a playground in Kirkby La Thorpe.

Mount Lane Play Area has been owned by the parish council for 30 years and most of the equipment dates back to this time.

Whilst it had served its purpose it was in a sorry state until the council secured funding for new equipment and renovations to the existing items.

One of the grants was a £4,000 Community Award from the Tesco Charity Trust.

A cheque was presented by store manager Dean Whiteley and community champion Paula Barlow to Councillor Rob Hipworth, chairman of the parish council.

Mr Whiteley said: "This donation reinforces our commitment to support local community initiatives.

"We are delighted to help Kirkby La Thorpe Parish Council and know they will benefit greatly from this donation."

Councillor David Main, a member of the council's play area working group, added: "The parish council is extremely grateful to Tesco for awarding us £4,000 from their Community Award Scheme."

Grants were also given by the Big Lottery Fund, Thorpe and Asgarby Estates and North Kesteven District Council to be added to the parish council's own reserves.

Work has also started on replacing the perimeter fencing.
