Listen to concerns
AS with parking, East Lindsey District Council appears reluctant to listen and respond to those they are elected to represent.
The latest controversy concerns Louth's colourful street markets, part of the town's economic and community life for centuries. I have lived in this delightful town now for four years and worked with the market traders in my former role with the Louth Town Partnership.
Many of these traders have worked Louth's thrice-weekly markets as well as others in the area for many years and have a thorough knowledge of how it all operates. But I know that these same people, some of whom travel great distances to set up their stalls in Louth, are feeling increasingly frustrated and angry with the way ELDC is 'managing' the markets and threatening the very livelihoods of the traders through ill-thought-out changes.
They are also incensed by claims from some senior councillors that 'Louth market continues to go from strength to strength'. Believe me, having lived abroad for more than half my life, Louth is a hidden gem in Britain's rural crown. I'm not an expert in markets, but I do have faith in the people who turn up regardless of the weather to support the town and, in doing so, add to an ambience that can only augment Louth's total shopping experience.
