Steven Lennon hopes to have done enough to cement his place in the Imps' starting line-up when they travel to Darlington in League Two tomorrow night.

The 22-year-old produced a lively substitute appearance, playing on the right of midfield, after replacing Cian Hughton just after the hour mark in Lincoln's 2-1 defeat at Chesterfield on Saturday.

Lennon, on loan from Glasgow Rangers, became the 14th player to be handed his debut by Chris Sutton and will be firmly imprinted in his new manager's thoughts after delivering a number of telling crosses in the final 25 minutes at Saltergate.

"I hope I have put myself in contention for the Darlington game," said Irvine-born Lennon.

"I came down to England to get games under my belt so I won't be happy if I am sat on the bench for too long.

"I felt I adapted to the pace of the game okay. People talk about the 'rough and tumble' element of League Two but I have played in the Scottish first division too and that is similar, so I am quite used to it."

Lennon was introduced into the fray with the Imps fighting an uphill battle, following Barry Conlon's clincher for the Blues.

Lennon was clear in his assessment of what went wrong on Saturday.

"It was a bit disappointing as slack defending cost the team again, like it did at Hereford on Tuesday night," reflected the former Partick Thistle loanee.

“i see stevie's still continuing his style of endearing himself to his host club by making billy big boot type comments.

"i'm not here to sit on the bench" and blaiming the defence. nice one stevie.

maybe you'll get that big money move to the big time one day. when you prove yourself at ower league football in england and scotland.”

“Showed he has lots of potential. Good movement and some nice touches. Unfortunately he was brought on too late and used in a wide position. i'd rather see him in a 4 4 2 formation playing off Connor or Facey.”
