City's lone Liberal Democrat will not be rushed into deciding who she will back
The authority which runs Lincoln has been left paralysed by an indecisive election result.
Both Labour and Conservative groups at City of Lincoln Council, who now hold 16 seats each, must wait to see which side the city's lone Liberal Democrat Helen Heath will back.

Liberal Democrat Helen Heath.
Mrs Heath, who holds the last of the authority's 33 seats, has unexpectedly found herself in the role of kingmaker.
Whoever she pledges her allegiance to will form the next authority.
A shell-shocked and exhausted Mrs Heath told the Echo the result had taken her by surprise.
"I can't say a great deal, I've got to consider all the options," she said.
"I have got to make a decision about what is going to deliver the best results for the people of Lincoln.
"I do recognise that a lot of people are going to be impatient for me to make my position clear but until we have had the opportunity to properly discuss it, I do not intent to be pushed into any announcements."
"It will be days not weeks but days not hours."
The search for a new leader at West Lindsey District Council also starts today after Conservative Adam Duguid was defeated in his re-election bid.
Mr Duguid lost his Market Rasen seat by 172 votes to Liberal Democrat Ken Bridger yesterday.
Independent Deborah Theobald, the wife of former leader Bernard Theobald, polled a crucial 276 votes to help Market Rasen town mayor Mr Bridger edge out the Tory leader.
Former West Lindsey supremo Mr Theobald also bowed out of politics yesterday after he was defeated by Conservative Thomas Regis in the Wold View ward.
Mr Theobald finished third behind Liberal Democrat nominee David Kitchen with 228 votes.

“@ Mr Sneer
Well said. With our crappy system we will have Labour block voting one way, the Tories block voting the other and Cllr Heath at best will be voting according to her conscience or, at worst, picking a side and sticking to it.
I might be living in cloud cuckoo land here but wouldn't it be nice if all 33 councillors just voted the way they think their wards would want them to vote. We elect these people to represent us and then they are more interested in what their party says than what their constituents say.”

“"Let's face it, the Tories only got into power in Lincoln because they promised, amongst other things, WEEKLY black bin collections."
From what evidence do you draw that startling (and frankly ridiculous) conclusion David?”

“Oh my god, the same old line by the socialist Labour types time and time again. Yes, under a Conservative administration the tourist information has closed and rubbish collection is now weekly instead of fortnighly. What these types fail to realise is that the weekly rubbish collections are a good thing. It cuts the chances down of problems with vermine. Moreover, the Conservative administration is still picking up the pieces from decades of consecutive Labour maladministrations. Under Labour we have never had our fair share of the luxuries other towns and cities enjoy such as a public liesure center built (even Louth has one!) and many fine buildings which should have been conserved and kept within Lincoln have been lost. If left to Labour Lincoln would be as scruffy and as the Labour club on Beaumont Fee! Tourisim has never ever been fully exploited in the City under Labour. and we have lost the horse racing at Carholme Road. I for one would like to see the Lincoln Handicap be raced at Lincoln where it belongs and horse racing reintroduced permanantly. The trouble with all these Socialist Labour types is that they fail to understand that Labour is run by Trades Unions and Champagne Socialists who have well paid jobs but actually dont know what Socialisim and Communisim actually are and how dangerous they are. I remember in the 1970's when Red Robbo bragged on TV that nothing got through British Leyland without his say so. Red Robbo was in charge of the Trade Union and a member of the British Communist Party. Like so much of our British Industries British Leyland under the Trades Unions have long gone. However, Mrs Thatcher clipped their wings. As for Helen Heath; she should not be trusted to be in such a position of power, dictating who gets in or not. The election should be run again...”

“When politics is brought into local councils nobody wins. They are always trying to score browny point against each other.”

“sounds like a few bitter grumbles from the labour lot there! because lets face it! thats all they do, moan! at least Helen works for her Ward unlike Miss Woolley who sits in her big house and looks down on us all while we pay her to do so! at least she lives in Lincoln! unlike Rick Metcalfe who looks down on us all while he lives in Waddington, why should he decide how our tax money is used when he doesn¿t pay council tax in Lincoln? Helen has always voted with what she thinks is right and the reason why she abstains when she does is so she doesn¿t get dragged into party politics and maybe people should look at how much Labour abstain from decisions! They only reason the Tories had to bin the black bin service is because of all the rubbish labour had left in city hall! 1.7 Million to Mr Moreno! with no creditable account back! i hope she sits back and lets the two parties fight it out!”
