POLICE, who stopped a Renault car, found an illegal drug on one of the passengers.

Carluke Robinson, 23, of St Bernards Avenue, Louth, admitted possessing 56.53 grams of mephedrone on May 4 when he appeared at Skegness Magistrates Court.

Jim Clare, prosecuting, said police, acting on intelligence, stopped the car on the Louth Road at Fotherby.

Robinson was a passenger in the car, which smelt strongly of cannabis and, although the initial search did not produce any drugs, he was taken to Louth Police Station for a strip search.

He produced four bags of what turned out to be the mephedrone, from his groin area inside his track suit trousers.

Mr Clare said the drugs had a street value of more than £1,100 but Robinson told police he had bought the drugs for £180 for his own personal use.

In mitigation, Gordon Holt said Robinson had bought the drugs earlier in that day.

He had bought a larger amount because it was cheaper and it also meant he didn't have to go out looking for drugs again.

However, Mr Holt said that the fact he was initially accused of being a drug dealer, had had a salutary effect on him and he had not touched drugs since then.

After standing the case down for a report from the Probation Service, the magistrates imposed a 12-month community order and ordered Robinson to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work for the community.
