Shirley Turk, 76, of Sandwell Drive in Lincoln, said: "Closing Lucy Tower is going to be disastrous.

"It will ruin Lincoln even more and block up the roads.

"It will affect people that want to go the Odeon and people that want to go to the Brayford."

Sheena Davis, 60, from Rampton, said: "We like using Lucy Tower because it's close to town and it's safer as it is patrolled.  It will be hugely inconvenient."

Sarah Green, 43, of Waltham near Grimsby, said: "It's going to have a massive impact.

"I'm going to have park somewhere uphill near the castle and walk.

"I use it about three times a week and it will be very inconvenient for me.  I'm sure it could have been done in stages."

The project will involve supporting floors with joists as the work is done so the entire building will need to be closed.

“The Odeon has now given its response to the closure.

This statement is from Odeon's press office: "Odeon Lincoln is aware that the local council are closing the Lucy Tower car park to undertake necessary repair work and hopes that this will not cause too much of an inconvenience for film fans.

"Odeon Lincoln is situated on the Brayford Waterfront, just a short distance from the Brayford Waterfront multi-story car park, and there are also several other city centre car parks that are within easy walking distance of the cinema.

"Odeon Lincoln hopes to continue welcoming guest through their doors throughout the car park period of closure."”

“The cost is £1.1m. Earlier work at the car park a couple of years ago cost £300,000.”

“Oh dear, it seems that the costs are already starting to spiral; £1.1m yesterday, today £1.4m. Perhaps the additional £300k is to compensate local traders and businesses for this 'expertly' timed and planned work? Or even the drivers hit with parking fines by the new green parking partols (who undoubtably wont have been told about the proposed parking cahnges).”

“Maybe they are employing the same workforce that took nearly 2 years to complete 400 yards of dual carriageway and 3 roundabouts recently on the bypass !”

“Anyone else failed to see how orchard street car park that has all of 20 spaces thats always full can compensate for the 458 car park spaces lost due to this? And with the cost of Dare I say an NCP being £4+ for an hour, who in there right mind would want to park in own anymore.”

“Closed through the summer holiday, excellent. Yet another reason not to come into Lincoln.

Surely if this was properly planned and resourced (people), it could be done in a couple of months. I wonder how many people will be involved in the work, not many by the sounds of it.

And as an aside, there's still no sign of any work going on in the Premier Inn on Broadgate.”

“I always park at St Marks Shopping Center, it's patrolled, and not too far from town.”

“2 weeks of work, 18 weeks of tea breaks, sunbathing on the top level, texting and going on Facebook. Ok, could be an exaggeration, but £1.1m and nearly 5 months to fix a windowless 5 storey building? As it is, Orchard Street and the County Office car parks are always packed at key times.”

    “A_Mason - - - If he's got a van that's a whole lot of parking tickets for twenty weeks isn't it.”
